For more than twenty years I have been providing repairs and restoration for new and antique optical equipment.
Originally operating as Scope Restore in the 1980's, I worked for a few companies as their repair agent as well as doing restorative work for individuals. After a brief period with a well known optical company as their repair technician, I started a new business in 1992, The Binocular and Telescope Service Centre P/L along with Martin Gertler, one of the founders of York Optical.
In 2005 BATSC was subsumed into The Binocular and Telescope Shop P/L when they opened a branch in Camberwell, Victoria. I was employed with them as Manager as well as a repair technician until mid 2011 when I moved to Sydney.
I have been making optics since I was about 11 when I ground and polished my first telescope mirror, a 6" f/8. It became somewhat of an obsession and quite a few more were made before I joined the RAAF in 1978. A brief lull in instrument making then occurred as personal and RAAF commitments came first. But then I became a member of the Astronomical Society of Victoria in 1998 and over the years served in several Council positions including that of General Secretary and President. I also am a member of the Astronomical Society of New South Wales, the Binocular Historical Group and the Antique Telescope Society.
Now, as Rogers' Optics and Restoration, I can once more indulge in my favourite pastime, restoration and servicing of optical equipment.
